maybe if i had the mumps
my boils would grow lips
and tongues.
i'd take my swollen cheeks
to mummy and
finally, they would converse
(in grown up speak)
of blood and bruise
and paramyxoviruses.
then she would take me to the
doctor and the doctor
would knock my knees.

but mother says when i was small
she took care of all my diseases so
i am okay for life.

i will never get the mumps.
