I am suddenly very very excited and determined to major in comparative literature and society. like hannelore in a recent QC strip, the most obvious answer was so simple that it passed by my eyes.
my conundrum:
i want to major in literature and film for the simple reason that these are the two great storytelling mediums. why storytelling? because i see storytelling as the prime (i use prime liberally) place for progress both because it is artistic and experimental, but also because stories are personal and have the power to move person (and therefore people). stories both affect and reflect societies, give ideas a face, change opinions without force, "only books are truly liberal...", open your eyes to the "other" ... i could go on, but basically my passions lie in storytelling and their effect, purpose, and power in society. i'm also a huge fan of different cultures and human nature defined outside of determinism and culturally-specific morals (literature brut/film brut?): what is truly human? what makes us human? etc. also, i love to think about the human condition.
miraculously, comparative literature and society allow me to STUDY ALL THIS & take extra courses like film production and scriptwriting/concentrate in creative writing?
it's a whole new playing field! i am an uber-nerd. my head is spinning. i love the world.
there is no space on my shelf for my CC books.
suddenly the world is very clear
(but the language requirement might shoot me down from crystal)
PS i interned at the tribeca film center for the first time today and liked it.
