bourgeois and proletariat

i just started the communist manifesto/finished the first chapter and i so agree with marx on hos theories about the proletariat/the role of the proletariat/how the bourgeoisie fight to make the proletariat machines for higher production. it's everything i already knew put compactly and perfectly but i am so ready to disagree with marx because whatever he is proposing so so western-centric that i am already rolling my eyes to the ends of the earth. barbarian vs civilized = east vs west? also, when he mentions "the east" he goes straight to china/other asian countries/egypt. what happened to (sub-saharan) africa? huh? exactly. i have more to say about this but i have to oakland now & i'll be back when i finish the whole manifesto.

Ugh I totally get the whole civilized vs. barbarian = west vs. east thing. It's all that post-colonial lit I had been reading but even now I still get annoyed whenever this misconception pops up somewhere. Remember when they had the whole shark's fin debacle at WIS and I went nuts that the school was allowing it all to happen??? That was essentially this.
