Do The Right Thing

"Dago, garlic-breath, guinea, pizza-slingin', spaghetti-bendin', Vic Damone, Perry Como, Luciano Pavarotti, Sole Mio, nonsingin' motherfucker."

I just saw the best movie I've seen since I started this movie binge. Spike Lee's 'Do The Right Thing' is everything 'Crash' hoped to be. So good ... it's like a novel, it's like literature. Spike Lee is a genius - produced, written, and directed. that's the way to make movies - Spike Lee is a fucking genius (and I saw him outside of Lit Hum. If it happens again, I will embarass myself by gushing). I don't even want to start pin-pointing things because I 'll keep going on and on BUT I love his characters (the kind that you can't categorize, that you sympathize with and then hate - well-rounded characters), I love his use of music (one song throughout the whole thing, and each scene changed the meaning, though the central message got through), dialogue (wonderful interaction between the motley crew - harhar - that occupies this neighbourhood), humour (subtle, everyday, not slapstick), social commentary (self-explanatory), union of time (24 hours), the ominous heat the sweat, the discomfort, people getting more and more fed up ans sticky as the day progressed ... AHH! One of my favourite movies now, one of my faves...

"You gold-teeth-gold-chain-wearin', fried-chicken-and-biscuit-eatin', monkey, ape, baboon, big thigh, fast-runnin', three hundred sixty degree basketball-dunkin' spade Moulan Yan."
